What are Polished Concrete Floors?
Polished concrete flooring installation is more labor-intensive than grind and sealed concrete flooring. Polished concrete boasts a longer life expectancy and is more durable than sealed concrete and is naturally a bit more expensive. Polished concrete floors are made using a process of polishing an existing concrete slab using commercial floor grinders and industrial diamond abrasives. There are several levels of sheen that can be achieved, ranging from matte to high gloss.
What are Grind and Sealed Concrete Floors?
These concrete floors are poured over an existing slab, ground, and then sealed with a high-performance sealer. BuiltMoore Contracting LLC uses commercial grinders to remove any contaminants from the concrete slab. Next, holes and cracks are patched. The surface is then swept to remove particles and cleaned. Last, a concrete floor sealer is applied. There are multiple levels of sheen that can be achieved. Call (520) 597-7957 for more information.
What is the Difference Between Polished and Grind and Sealed Concrete?
There are two main differences between these two types of concrete flooring. Both types are economical as compared to other flooring options, such as travertine or tiles. Both are practical, easy to clean, and attractive. BuiltMoore Contracting LLC flooring experts will listen to your goals and expectations and help you choose a flooring solution that makes sense.
Floor Appearance - Both polished and grind and seal concrete can be installed with varying levels of polish or finish. The polished concrete achieves its finish from finer grits of diamond abrasives. With sealed concrete, an actual sealer is applied to the surface. Therefore, the sealed concrete has a more consistent appearance from one floor to the next because the same sealer product can be used. Stains and paints can be used on either type of concrete floor to achieve a variety of colors and textures.
Floor Durability - If you have a building with heavy foot traffic, polished concrete is a great option. It lasts for many decades when properly maintained. Grind and seal concrete installation is often the first choice for garages, warehouses, and other areas where a stain-resistant, easy to clean floor is desired because the finish is less porous.
How Much Does Concrete Floor Installation Cost?
Concrete polished flooring is more labor-intensive and therefore more expensive than grind/seal floors. However, the upfront cost levels off if you keep your facility for many years. Grind and seal floors are less expensive to install but do need to be refinished after several years.
